Color Palette Generator

Choose, rotate, or perturb an original five-color palette while showing every HEX value and basic contrast checks. The complete workflow runs locally in this browser, with visible controls and a result you can inspect before copying or downloading.

How it works

  1. Securely select an original named five-color base palette.
  2. Keep colors unchanged in curated mode or apply a bounded HSL hue/lightness transform consistently, reducing an extreme lightness shift if it would collapse distinct colors.
  3. Return HEX values, swatches, and optional computed pairwise contrast ratios without claiming every pair is accessible.

Worked example

Harbor Morning returns five HEX values; contrast output can identify which foreground/background pairs reach selected ratios.

Limits and interpretation

  • The tool includes 12 original bases and creates at most 12 palettes per run.
  • A palette is not automatically accessible, color-blind safe, print accurate, or suitable for every display.
  • Contrast ratios assess sRGB text contrast only and require designers to choose actual foreground/background roles.

Frequently asked questions

How does Color Palette Generator make its random choices?
Web Crypto selects base palettes and, when variation is enabled, signed bounded transform direction; color conversion is deterministic.
Does Color Palette Generator upload my inputs or results?
No. Custom constraints, generated ideas, and output stay in the active browser tab and are not sent, logged, or stored by the tool.
When should I use Color Palette Generator?
Use it for an initial visual direction, then test selected colors in the real interface and accessibility context.
